SEO Overview

SEO is Search Engine Optimization. It refers to the three types of Meta Data that educate search engine robots and search engine users about your website before they view it.

The three types of Meta Data are:
1. Title: The title given to your website. This title appears in the uppermost portion of your web browser, parallel to the buttons that allow you to minimize, resize and close your window. If your website has no title, the page will have no title either. When your website is listed in a search engine, like Google, the title text will also be the text of the link people click to go to your website.
2. Keywords: Keywords are invisible to the website user, but they guide the search engines to catagorize your pages according to your content. Keywords should always be based on the content of the page they represent. If your website does not yet have page-specific meta data, you can use the global meta data area on the Page Properties dialogue box to fill in keywords about each specific page.
3. Description: Description is the text that shows up in a search engine, like Google, underneath the link to your website. Titles should be written in full sentences, in English, or the language the page is written in. If you have done a translation of your website into Spanish, all the Spanish pages should have their descriptions written in Spanish.

Making good SEO from scanty content

Let’s say you're still fleshing out the content on your website, and you don't have much there yet. If you want to get a head start on creating your keywords, you can analyze the content you have for keywords.
Take the sample below for reference:
As specialists in close tolerance fabrication and machining, our success rests not only upon craftsmanship, but upon our ability to understand your technical needs and then to develop affordable and timely solutions.
We bring to this task a proven track record and twenty years of experience in medical, scientific, and industrial applications. If you have drawings, we can produce parts and sub-assemblies to your specifications; if you need engineering and design assistance, give us a call.
Your deadlines are our deadlines. Whatever your requirements, you’ll find our free estimates accurate, prompt, and competitive. We can satisfy all your plastic fabrication needs quickly and accurately, allowing you to meet even your toughest deadlines with confidence!

What SEO can be gleaned from this content?
As specialists in close tolerance fabrication and machining, our success rests not only upon craftsmanship, but upon our ability to understand your technical needs and then to develop affordable and timely solutions.

But that’s not a lot of keywords, what now?
Now add other words that occur on the page, for example, the company name, the city and state where the company is located and you can go back and add a second tier of keywords. They aren’t as effective as the ones we just picked, but they will help a little. I’ve left the original keywords and keyword phrases in bold and bold italic, the new ones are in red italic:

LAST REMINDER AND META INFORMATION

So what does that leave us with? Here’s our final set of keywords:
The company name, the name of the page, the city, the state, close tolerance fabrication, machining, medical, scientific, industrial applications, drawings, produce parts, sub-assemblies, free estimates, plastic fabrication. All together, that's about 250 characters. The perfect length for your keywords. That's not bad for a website that's just starting out. Remember, you'll want to do individual sets of keywords for each page so that your SEO is more effective.

Meta Information:
Title: Enter a 60 character page title. This will appear on every page in your website that doesn't have Page Specific Meta Data.
Keywords: Enter the keywords that will represent your whole website. These keywords will be used on every page unless you fill in the Page Specific Meta Data below. You are limited by the internet to 250 characters, so put the important keywords first.
Description: Enter a description of your page, up to 250 characters. This description should be in sentences or bullet points. This description will appear on all pages unless you fill in your Page Specific Meta Data.
Margins: Set as required. Margins are measured in pixels. 96 pixels is an inch.
Background: You can set either a solid color, or use a small repeating image as a background for your page.
